2022 – Updates on the last Council of Ministers in Madagascar
Studies were conducted on the evolution of the disease throughout the pandemic and the efficiency of measures implemented to control the spread of Covid-19. A decrease in the Covid-19 prevalence was observed, resulting in the adoption of a more permissive policy on preventive measures such as the wearing of masks. Following review, wearing a mask is no longer mandatory outdoors or in small indoor settings. However, it is mandatory to wear masks and respect social distancing indoors when there are 200 people or more as well as in public transport (buses, cabs, bush taxis, airplanes).
Nevertheless, Madagascar is now entering the winter season, which may increase the chances of transmission of respiratory diseases, so it is more necessary than ever to remain vigilant by strengthening the immune system. People are also encouraged to get vaccinated, as vaccines are free and freely available and therefore accessible to all. Nevertheless, the Malagasy government does not make it an obligation, people are able to choose to be vaccinated or not.
